We believe that JESUS was and is “GOD with us.” GOD became human 2,000 years ago in the person of JESUS the SAVIOR (Christ). JESUS lived among us in what is today called the Holy Land, teaching and performing miracles to reveal GOD’s love for all of GOD’s people. JESUS was arrested, falsely accused, convicted of crimes against the Jewish Temple and nation, and crucified. On the third day after HIS burial, GOD raised HIM to life again. The New Testament of the Bible tells the story of JESUS’ life, and the beginnings and growth of the Christian Church after JESUS ascended from Earth.

Simply put, a Christian is anyone who believes in JESUS the CHRIST (CHRIST is not JESUS’ last name but a Jewish title meaning SAVIOR or MESSIAH), HIS teachings, and in HIS death and resurrection as the means by which we might receive life with GOD forever after this life. Christians seek to follow the example of JESUS by loving and serving others in his name and seeing everyone as a beloved child of GOD. Yes, we are Christians.

n 1517, a Roman Catholic theology professor named Martin Luther raised questions about how we receive GOD’s unconditional forgiveness (grace). These questions triggered what we call “The Reformation,” a reforming process for the church. Many churches joined in this reforming, protesting some of the authority and abuses of the Church at that time. The term “protesting” led to them collectively being referred to as Protestants. The followers of Luther’s teaching were called Lutherans by their opponents and the name stuck. Today, the Evangelical Lutheran Church seeks to welcome all people to receive GOD’s grace and share in CHRIST’s service to all the world.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of GOD that tells of GOD’s relationship with humankind. Throughout human history, GOD has sought an intimate relationship with all people. The Old Testament records how GOD established a close relationship with the Jewish people so that all people might be blessed through them. The New Testament tells how that blessing was fulfilled in the life and death of JESUS, that all people might dwell with GOD for eternity.

Holy Baptism unites us with JESUS CHRIST and makes us a member of GOD’s family. We believe baptism is for all and only needs to be done once. As a gift from GOD, it is available to all ages. For more specific information or to set a date for baptism, please speak with our pastor.

The Sacrament of the LORD’s Table is a gift from GOD available to all who believe in JESUS CHRIST. Holy Communion unites us with the body and blood of CHRIST, sacrificed for the sin of the world. In Communion, we receive GOD’s unconditional forgiveness and are blessed to live as GOD’s people in the world. We welcome everyone to receive this gift, regardless of history, age, denominational affiliation, or anything else that might divide.
